What race distances are offered? Two distances will be offered: a “traditional” half iron distance triathlon length event and an aquabike event. The half iron distance triathlon will feature a 1.2 mile (1.9km) swim, 56 mile (90km) bike ride and a 13.1 mile (21.1km) run. Athletes can also opt for the aquabike, which consists of a 1.2 mile swim followed by a 56 mile bike ride.
What is the minimum age to race?Athletes must be at least 18 years old on race day to compete in the individual half iron distance triathlon or aquabike event. Minimum age requirements to participate in the relay events will still be announced.
Are relays/teams allowed? We welcome relays of 2 or 3 people in the half iron distance triathlon.
What are the different relay options? We are pleased to introduce a new option for the team event in 2016. Athletes who wish to participate in a team will have two options in 2o16. The first option is the traditional relay format whereby each team member completes 1 entire discipline (e.g. one member completes the entire swim and tags the cyclist, who completes the entire bike ride and who then tags the designated runner). The second option is the new 2-2-2 division where 2 athletes will share each discipline. Each team member will complete half of the swim course, half of the bike course and half of the run course. At the end, each team member will have completed an entire triathlon slightly longer than an olympic distance race.
What is the expected water temperature on race day?The water temperature in January is generally around 81F (27C).
Will wetsuits be allowed?Given the warm water temperature and the fact that the swim takes place in a buoyant environment, wetsuits will not be allowed.

In addition, three of the water stations will have bananas and pretzels.

Are headphones allowed during the bike or run portions of the event? For the safety of all participants, headphones will not be allowed during any portion of the event.
Is there a course cut-off?The run course will close at 2pm (7 hours into the race) due to the potential hot conditions on race day.
